What is hypnosis?  Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness or consciousness. Some people have described it as a strong focused thought.

People flow in and out of four basic levels of awareness all throughout the day and night. These four levels of awareness, or brain waves, are Beta waves, Alpha waves, Theta waves, and Delta waves. Any state below full conscious awareness--Beta level--can be considered an altered state. These altered states of awareness are generally described as meditative or relaxed conscious awareness.

What does hypnosis, or an altered state, feel like?  People have described their experience to me as being very relaxed, peaceful, enjoyable, and still with a level of conscious awareness and ability. Of course every person will have a different perception, but the general description is still the same. In these altered states you will always be aware of what is going on in your surroundings and your subconscious mind will hear everything that is said to you.

How do you get into an altered state of awareness?  A certified hypnotist can help you move into an altered state of awareness very easily by using verbal guidance, visual signals, instant inductions, and muscle relaxation techniques. People have told me that they sometimes feel themselves moving from one level of awareness to another during a session without any effort. Sometimes they feel their conscious mind more relaxed and sometimes they feel more active or aware.

How does clinical hypnosis work?  Once you have obtained an altered state of awareness, the hypnotist will ask your subconscious mind questions and give your inner mind suggestions that will help you release unwanted programming, recall important information, or release causes for mental blocks, weight retention, a desire to smoke, etc. Guidance, affirmations, positive imagery, positive suggestions, and reinforcements are then used to help you achieve your personal goal.

What is a typical session like?  The first session usually lasts two hours. The first hour is used for information sharing and gathering. It is also a time for you and me to get to know one another. The remaining time is used for the hypnosis session. 

Future sessions usually last one hour and are focused primarily on utilizing hypnosis to help the client reach their goal.

Why does hypnosis work?  Hypnosis allows a person to release unwanted behaviors that the conscious mind is unaware of or might be unable to release on its own. Once the mental blocks are released, the body can then use its natural abilities to achieve success.

Will I lose control while in hypnosis?  No. You will never do anything that you don’t want to do while in hypnosis. You are in complete control at all times.

Is it true that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis?  Yes, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. No one can force you to go into a hypnotic trance. You will only enter into hypnosis if you are willing and give your consent.

Can I be hypnotized?  Yes. Everyone has entered into an altered state of consciousness at one point in his or her life. As an example, every time you go to sleep at night you enter into an altered state of awareness.

Can hypnosis help me?  Yes, if you want it to. All you need is a true desire to succeed. Hypnosis has been an effective tool for successfully attaining personal goals for centuries.

Hypnosis is not meant to replace, change, or stop people from using doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, counselors, or any other medical professional. Hypnosis is an effective, complimentary, and supported technique for achieving personal goals and desires. You will not receive a diagnosis or a prescription while seeing a certified hypnotist.
